Reprints

From LOTR-TCG Wiki
The most reprinted card in the game, showing up in Fellowship Block, Towers Block, King Block, War of the Ring Block, and finally Hunters Block.

Not to be confused with Print Runs, which refer to actual physical duplicate printings.

If you are looking for how many copies of each set were printed in total, see Product Box Counts.

Although the Standard format was initially touted as an evergreen format that new card sets were added to, individual blocks were designed to stand alone. As a result, certain mainstay cards would be reprinted block to block to ensure that they were always available. With Shadows, Standard began to rotate out older sets, and so the horizon for what was an acceptable reprint was broadened somewhat to ensure that certain cards remained available in the face of their original sets getting retired. Cards which were reprinted in this manner often had their stats or text tweaked to fit the new post-Shadows world (especially sites).

On top of this balance maintenance, cards from the Promotional set are practically defined as only including card previews ("preprints"?) or visually-distinct card reprints of existing cards. (There are exceptions to this rule, but they are few and far between.)

And then of course every post-Movie Block set had 18 Legends RF reprints within its own set, and starting with Black Rider added 9 Legends Masterworks reprints as well.

Each situation has resulted in cards that, in spite of having different Collector's Info, portraits, templates, and/or lore, are functionally identical for gameplay purposes and can at most have different contexts regarding the block that they are attached to. For collectors, each of these reprints are distinct instances of a card checklist, but for players these can essentially be considered clones.

Occasionally Decipher goofed and accidentally assigned the exact same title for a new card; these are usually ruled to be distinct cards (even permitting both copies at up to 4x in your deck, even though that causes there to be 8x of a card with the same title in your deck).

Non-Promo Reprints[edit]

The below omits Legends (RF), Masterworks (O), and P / D / W cards from the Promotional set. It does not omit goof reprints.
