Shortly after the release of The Lord of the Rings TCG in November 2001, the first League Kit was released by Decipher in January 2002[1]. Kits could be ordered by retailers and Product Champions for $35 (plus $5+ for shipping)[2] and contained the following:

According to the Ranger's Manual included with the League Kit, it was intended for each of the included promos to be handed out over 4 months to up to 18 participants, one at the start and one at the end of each month of activity based on participation with various community-building activities. Each community member would be issued a Ring-bearer's Journal for tracking their personal progress. Whether each local Product Champion fastidiously held to these instructions is an exercise left to the reader.
