Ring-bound is an Unloaded Keyword. It appears on a small handful of Free Peoples companions whose fates are inextricably tied to the One Ring. Also, the Ring-bearer is always Ring-bound, even if it doesn't say so on their card. (This last rule is only relevant with the alternate Ring-bearers, first introduced in Reflections.) All companions that are not Ring-bound are unbound. Allies and minions are never Ring-bound or unbound.

The only characters with Ring-bound printed on their cards are all versions of Frodo, all versions of Sam, all companion versions of Bilbo, all versions of Smeagol, a handful of Gondor Rangers from Towers Block (representing Faramir's company of rangers in Ithilien), and Boromir, Steward's Heir (0P65) .

Comprehensive Rules 4.0

Only companions can be Ring-bound (not allies or minions). All versions of Frodo and Sam are Ring-bound.

- Ring-bound section

Your fellowship begins with a character bearing The One Ring. This can be any character with the ringed resistance icon, or any version of Frodo. That character gains the keywords Ring-bearer and Ring-bound, if he does not already have them.
