Frodo, Mr. Underhill (0P67) is a Shire Companion from the Promotional set. It was distributed as a prize for players who participated in digital leagues for the Lord of the Rings Online TCG in June 2005.[1] The card is itself a cut-down version of the much more elaborate Customizable League Card used in the online client, representing a version of the card with a whopping 6 points invested into its customization (out of 30), the highest of all the customizable league promos. Due to the relatively low popularity of signups for those leagues, the card remains one of the rarest in the game; its high price is purely due to that rarity, as the gameplay appeal is rock bottom.

While it is technically distinct from Frodo, Reluctant Adventurer (2C102) , the only actual gameplay difference is the inclusion of the Gandalf Signet instead of the Aragorn Signet. As a result, that card's page is shown below.

"They began to call him well-preserved, but unchanged would have been nearer the mark."
This card is a reprint of Frodo, Reluctant Adventurer (2C102) . Gameplay is identical to that card, whose strategy article is shown below.

Strategy[edit]

This version of Frodo is a very common default in Fellowship Block if your chosen strategy doesn't need any more specific version of Frodo. Most Fellowship Block decks contain at least a Hobbit Sword (1C299) for Frodo, and probably include Sting (1R313) , Mithril Coat (31HE5) and O Elbereth! Gilthoniel! (2R108) if able. All of these cards benefit from Frodo's ability, denying a small amount of twilight that your opponent might need to play a powerful minion. This ability also works on Stone Trolls (1R314) , There and Back Again (1C317) and Frodo's Pipe (3U107) , and is effective on many other cards from later sets, including Brace of Coneys (4C298) and Salt from the Shire (11R171) . The Aragorn signet also makes this Frodo easier to heal, using either Aragorn, King in Exile (1P365) or Hard Choice (4U123) .

His Aragorn signet plus his twilight cost reduction make him a perfect candidate for These Are My People (5R41) decks, replaying your used Frodo's Cloak (4R303) for only and each Brace of Coneys for free to dispel burdens. Combine this with some copies of The Shire Countryside (3R113) and you'll have also a strong healing machine that will sweep most or all wounds on your fellowship, making irrelevant the cost of exerting Aragorn twice to play that Gondor event.

Strengths and Weaknesses[edit]

Strong Versus...[edit]

  • Expensive shadow sides
  • Wounding/Archery shadows (with Aragorn King in Exile or Hard Choice)

Weak Versus...[edit]

  • Cheap shadow sides
