Worlds 2004
Worlds 2004 was the third World Championship for the Lord of the Rings Trading Card Game. It was ran by Decipher and the DGMA at GenCon Indy in Indianapolis, Indiana, from Thursday, August 19 to Sunday, August 22, 2004[1]. Emir Delic became World Champion, with Josh Cornwell-Mott the runner-up[2].
Format[edit]
The main event used the Standard format[1]. With Mount Doom released in July 2004, Standard at the time covered every set from The Fellowship of the Ring to Mount Doom (the card pool now known as Movie Block), minus the X-List. Later sources, including fan decklist threads and earlier versions of this wiki, call this event's format "Movie Block"; Decipher's own announcements call it Standard. The card pool is the same, but Standard was subject to the X-List of the time, so the two are not identical.
- Day 1 (Thursday, August 19): four open qualifier heats of 6 rounds each, for anyone not already qualified for Day 2. A player could enter more than one. The top 10% of each heat (minimum 4) advanced.
- Heat 1, 11:00 am: Standard
- Heat 2, 2:00 pm: Fellowship Block
- Heat 3, 5:00 pm: King Block
- Heat 4, 7:00 pm: Standard
- Day 2 (Friday, August 20): two heats of 8 rounds, both Standard, with players assigned to heats by Decipher. The top 8 of each heat advanced.
- Day 3 (Saturday, August 21): the top 16 in a single-elimination bracket, best-of-3 matches with a 3.5-hour time limit, Standard.
- Final Confrontation (Sunday, August 22, 1:00 pm): the last two players met on an elevated stage in the TCG hall, with the game shown on monitors. It was treated as a new tournament, so different decks could be used.
