Strategy[edit]
Hobbit Farmer can be used to manipulate and maintain a beneficial site 1 for the Free Peoples player. The following sites are all available:

Unlike the situation for site 3's Silinde, Elf of Mirkwood (1U60)
and site 6's Uruviel, Maid of Lorien (1C67)
, there are no site 1s which specifically name themselves to prevent having their text copied. However, most of them are not useful for Hobbit Farmer because they have one-time effects - for example, there is no real benefit to being able to play Aragorn more than once with The Prancing Pony (1U324)
. Discounting East Road (1U320)
(which benefits the Shadow player) and Hobbiton Woods (2U116)
(which only plays your site 2), this only really leaves 3 useful sites: Green Hill Country (1U323)
, Town Center (2C117)
, and Westfarthing (1C326)
, which offer extra choke utility and card draw. Green Hill Country is a particularly good choice, because its effect stacks with each Hobbit Farmer out.
Still, in a pinch the one-time-use site 1s can still be used by Hobbit Farmer to make a given character more reliable to pull. If a player really needs their Aragorn, Bilbo, Sam, Merry, or Pippin, but can't afford to bid high or pack extra copies, they can use Hobbit Farmer with the relevant site 1 instead. Most of the time, however, one has to wonder whether you shouldn't just include extra copies of those characters instead of Hobbit Farmer himself.
There are also some specific tricks Hobbit Farmer can use with certain sites. Using The Prancing Pony (1U324)
's text, he can add burdens at will so that the Free Peoples player can remove them to trigger The Shire Countryside (3R113)
, which can be useful as there were few other ways of doing this prior to The One Ring, Answer To All Riddles (4R1)
.
Also, in Pre-Shadows Multipath, Hobbit Farmer can use Farmer Maggot's Fields to repeatedly call forth the self-discardable versions of Merry and Pippin, such as Merry, Learned Guide (4C310)
and Pippin, Woolly-footed Rascal (4C314)
.
Rulings[edit]
- Hobbit Farmer only works with sites from Fellowship Block, meaning sets 1, 2, and 3.
