Strategy[edit]
Saruman's prized creation (according to film canon) and the only minion to kill a member of the Fellowship (permanently, at least), Lurtz, Servant of Isengard is just about everything you would expect from one of the main villains in the trilogy. Damage +1, an Archer, and conditionally fierce, Lurtz is a common addition to nearly any Uruk-Hai deck across formats. Particularly devastating with Savagery to Match Their Numbers and Lurtz's Battle Cry.
At [7], he costs [1] less than the Witch-King and has the fourth highest base strength in Fellowship Block (behind the Balrog, the Cave Troll, and the Witch-King, but tied with Goblin Patrol Troop). In future sets, he can be spotted as an [Isengard] archer for several other cards, including the powerful Weapons of Isengard and Ranged Commander. Lurtz, Servant of Isengard also plays well with [Sauron] Uruk-Hai and support cards, such as Rank and File in Movie Block format.
Strengths and Weaknesses[edit]

Alternate Personas[edit]
Portrait | Name | Game Text |
---|---|---|
Lurtz, Minion of the White Wizard (11R194) | Archer. Damage +1. Muster. (At the start of the regroup phase, you may discard a card from hand to draw a card.) Lurtz is strength +3 for each exhausted companion you can spot. | |
Lurtz, Now Perfected (15R162) | Damage +1.
Each time Lurtz wins a skirmish, the Free People’s player must exert X companions, where X is the current region number. | |
Lurtz, Halfling Hunter (18R118) | Archer. Damage +1.
Maneuver: Spot 6 companions to make Lurtz fierce until the regroup phase. Assignment: Exert Lurtz twice to assign it to an unbound companion. The Free Peoples player may exert that companion or add a burden to prevent this. | |
Lurtz, Resilient Captain (19P33) | Archer. Damage +1.
Response: If Lurtz is about to take a wound or be exerted, remove (or exert another Uruk-hai) to prevent that wound or exertion. |
