Strategy
Aragorn, Thorongil is arguably one of the strongest Aragorns ever released. With a powerful maneuver ability and a hefty Hunter bonus, he is a staple in many Gondor decks in Expanded and Standard decks. He is ten strength against minions lacking Hunter, and with Andúril, Sword That Was Broken (17R27)
and other gear, he can get as strong as 14 strength against non-Hunters, and can exert minons on top of it!
Throngil fits well into a Hunter-based strategy that utilizes cards like Namárië (17U10)
and Elven Guardian (17S7)
. As that strategy focuses on wounding and archery predominantly with threats, his exertion ability fits snugly. He is also one of the few strong skirmishers among Hunters.
In a basic Gondor deck, Thorongil is used merely as a strong skirmisher and a counter to hunter minions. He is only eclipsed in a
Gondor token strategy by Aragorn, Isildur's Heir (13R59)
's raw strength and Defender bonus.
