Strategy[edit]
When players look at allies for inclusion in decks, they look at two main things - is the game text on the ally useful and can the ally fight for their fellowship if they need him too? Aldor, Soldier of Edoras does both these things.
Since Rohan has no Archers and no cards to give companions the Archer keyword, they normally have to rely on elves or men to supply wounds during the Archery phase. Unfortunately, with Grima, Chief Counselor around, including too many cultures is not always wise. Aldor can exert and spot a Villager to add one to the Archery total. One point of Archery often means that a minion cannot use a Special Ability which requires him to exert or that your riders can finish him off for a safe double move. With Guma, Plains Farmer and Well Stored, you can insure that Aldor is fully healed to fire his arrows every turn.
The other benefit that Aldor brings to the table is that he has two home sites. While most allies can only fight at one site naturally, Aldor has a home site of 3T and 6T. This allows him to serve as a blocker at either sanctuary if necessary. Since double moving to or even through site 6 is often crucial to the race to site 9, having an extra body to block is extremely useful. Obviously, age hasn't stopped Aldor from providing aid to his fellow Rohirrim.
