Strategy[edit]

Despite its expensive spotting requirement, Let Us Be Swift is one of the best cards concerning valiant men, giving the [rohan] culture easy condition discard and site liberation as a bonus. The [rohan] culture lacks condition discard, with Fortress Never Fallen and Firefoot, Eomer's Steed being its main other options. However, with Fortress Never Fallen having several weaknesses and being X-listed in later formats, Let Us Be Swift is a solid choice for mono-rohan decks.

Because Let Us Be Swift needs to spot 3 valiant companions, it may force the Free Peoples player to choose sub-par companions who have the valiant keyword over stronger ones who don't, particularly in earlier formats where there are fewer options available. In spite of this, there are still 4 unique characters (Any version of Eowyn; Eomer, Rohirrim Captain; Theoden, King of the Golden Hall and Gamling, Warrior of Rohan) in The Two Towers that can be used, rather than the weaker Household Guard or Rohirrim Scout. This situation improves in Return of The King and later sets, especially with the release of powerful characters such as Aragorn, Defender of Rohan. Another weakness of this card is that it can become unplayable if too many valiant characters die, or if the Free Peoples player fails to draw enough valiant companions (Simbelmyne and Last Days of My House can be used to help get the right companions out.)

With a twilight cost of 1, Let Us Be Swift is quite versatile, and can be played prior to a double move without too much trouble. It can also be played to discard only one shadow condition, or none at all, thanks to its wording. Several copies make it very useful against condition-heavy shadows ([moria], [sauron]), while site liberation makes it effective against [dunland], Besiegers and some [isengard] or [uruk-hai] decks.

Strengths and Weaknesses[edit]

Strong Versus...[edit]

  • Condition-based shadow strategies
  • Any shadow using conditions
  • Site Control

Weak Versus...[edit]

  • No effect against shadows with no conditions or controlled sites, though it can still be played to get it out of the Free Peoples player's hand
  • Useless if too many valiant men die, or if the Free Peoples player fails to draw the needed characters (Mitigated by Simbelmyne and Last Days of My House)
