General Strategy

!Dunlending Madman is an inexpensive minion whose low strength makes him quick work for the Fellowship's main fighters, but when combined with threatening minions such as Hillman Tribe or Dunlending Pillager the Free Peoples is often forced to assign him to support characters who have no hopes of winning. With the boost to 9 strength in the fierce skirmish, he can now appropriately challenge the stronger companions and, perhaps with a little help from Burn Every Village or spare vitality from Saruman, Rabble-rouser, put two wounds on the fellowship at minimal cost.

Note that while it may be tempting to beef him up with Iron Axe for a 10/12 strength minion, for the same twilight you could put War Club on Dunlending Robber for an 11/13 strength minion with the ability to discard items.

Strengths and Weaknesses

Strong Versus...

  • Fellowships with only one or two strong skirmishers, such as choke or Hobbit-centric decks

Weak Versus...

  • Fellowships without many weak skirmishers, such as Ents
  • Fellowships with lots of wounding, as this character is rarely worth saving with Hides

Example Decks

Rules and Clarifications

  • Strength bonus can be stacked with other effects, such as War Cry of Dunland or Living off Rock.

Extra Information

  • The post-shadows [men] minion, Crazed Hillman, is very similar to this card but with a much higher strength bonus due to power creep.
