One of the Dagorlad Wraiths, Covetous Wisp is most frequently seen in corruption decks, as its text gives it the ability to add burdens fairly dependably. This Wraith is often seen in conjunction with {{Card|Undead of Angmar}}, who can lower resistance, as well as other corruption related cards such as {{Card|Dark Swooping Shadows}}, {{Card|Sense of Obligation}} and {{Card|Gates of the Dead City}}. Its ability does require twilight to use, which can weaken the minion when playing against choke decks, although Fellowships that use Followers may add twilight during the Maneuver phase. The minion is also weak to Archery, unless {{Card|Barrow-Wight Stalker}} is in play. Because its ability only triggers when the Free Peoples player assigns it, some Fellowship players may simply allow the Shadow player to assign the minion and thus evade the ability (this can be discouraged using the '''damage''' bonus of {{Card|Stooping to the Kill}}) - this does not work very well with most alternate Ring-Bearers however, as the Shadow Player will likely add burdens simply by assigning the Covetous Wisp to said Ring-Bearer.

Strategy[edit]

One of the Dagorlad Wraiths, Covetous Wisp is most frequently seen in corruption decks, as its text gives it the ability to add burdens fairly dependably. This Wraith is often seen in conjunction with Undead of Angmar (16R6) , who can lower resistance, as well as other corruption related cards such as Dark Swooping Shadows (10R58) , Sense of Obligation (12U170) and Gates of the Dead City (3R81) . Its ability does require twilight to use, which can weaken the minion when playing against choke decks, although Fellowships that use Followers may add twilight during the Maneuver phase. The minion is also weak to Archery, unless Barrow-wight Stalker (16R1) is in play. Because its ability only triggers when the Free Peoples player assigns it, some Fellowship players may simply allow the Shadow player to assign the minion and thus evade the ability (this can be discouraged using the damage bonus of Stooping to the Kill (10C64) ) - this does not work very well with most alternate Ring-Bearers however, as the Shadow Player will likely add burdens simply by assigning the Covetous Wisp to said Ring-Bearer.
