Although the [[Standard]] format was initially touted as an evergreen format that new card sets were added to, individual blocks were designed to stand alone. As a result, certain mainstay cards would be '''reprinted''' block to block to ensure that they were always available.  With [[Shadows]], Standard began to rotate out older sets, and so the horizon for what was an acceptable reprint was broadened somewhat to ensure that certain cards remained available in the face of their original sets getting retired.  Cards which were reprinted in this manner often had their stats or text tweaked to fit the new post-Shadows world (especially sites).
