General Strategy

Gimli, Feared Axeman is the second most popular version of Gimli in Movie Block (behind Gimli, Bearer of Grudges). The character is fantastic support for the condition-heavy Dwarven decks. He is particularly helpful when protecting Preparations or Ever My Heart Rises with stacked skirmish events or copies of Slaked Thirsts. Almost exclusively used as a starting companion in conjunction with Dunharrow Plateau.

Strengths and Weaknesses

Strong Versus...

  • Gimli, Feared Axeman is a staple Gimli card in decks relying on specific [Dwarven] conditions. Particularly powerful for protecting early game set-ups, like Ever My Heart Rises or Preparations tutored with Dunharrow Plateau.

Weak Versus...

  • As a powerful Dwarf companion, this character often is targeted by directed wounding by the Shadow player. Watch out for Desert Lord, Hate, or Red Wrath. Try to equip Gimli, Feared Axeman with a copy of Dwarven Bracers and Gimli's Helm.
  • Speak No More to Me (since "returns to hand" you can't prevent it; if there are cards stacked under that condition, those are discarded)
