General Strategy

Proper Poet is useful mostly as cannon fodder: Play him, make him Defender + 1 when needed and then put two large minions on him. In this way, he can actually be more useful than Dwarf Guard or Lorien Elf, since they can only take one minion each. There are also several tricks that can augment his ability - making him Defender + 1 and then cancelling his skirmish (With Hobbit Stealth or similar) at the early sites allows you to get more use out of him, as does playing Stout and Sturdy (Or Strength of Spirit) to allow him to use his ability twice. Since his ability requires two exertions and his strength is so low, using him as a permanent companion is highly impractical.

Strengths and Weaknesses

Strong Versus...

  • Expensive minions
  • Swarm decks

Weak Versus...

  • Assignment abilities, such as that of Saruman, SotE
