General Strategy

Counter-intuitively, Orc Butchery is not very good for discard decks because these decks don't tend to kill enemy characters. On the other hand, Orc Butchery has no limit, so it can potentially discard half a deck by itself (4 copies played on 4 different companions is a minimum of 30 cards). Can be used with beatdown to try and wipe an opponent's deck, perhaps to make things easier for the user's fellowship. Even a single copy can be punishing if an opponent has too much cannon fodder. Additionally, multiple copies of Orc Butchery can be played in response to the same death, which could be devastating with more than a few dead characters. Orc Butchery cannot trigger off an ally's death, but it does count dead allies, so it works well with Tower Assassin.

Rules and Clarifications

  • A [Sauron] Orc kills a companion when the game text that kills that companion comes from a [Sauron] Orc minion card, or that companion is killed by losing a skirmish involving a [Sauron] Orc minion. - http://lotrtcgwiki.com/forums/index.php/topic,4607.0.html
  • Multiple copies of Orc Butchery can be played in response to the same death.
  • When counting the number of characters in the dead pile, Orc Butchery counts the companion who just died (Since required triggers come before optional ones).
