A middling-weak card, usually used as part of a Gollum splash in a corruption deck.
In a vacuum, about on par with It Wants To Be Found and The Ring Is Mine!. However, winning skirmishes with Gollum is fairly resource-intensive due to his generally low strength, and this card will clog up your hand until you do. To win skirmishes with Gollum, you'll generally need to invest in Gollum pumps or a secondary strategy like stacking threats, self-milling, or swarming minions. There are exceptions that can stand on their own, like Gollum, Stinker and Gollum, Old Villain, but even those aren't especially reliable. Every card you dedicate to pumping up Gollum or focusing on a secondary strategy isn't a card dedicated to adding burdens or supporting your main Shadow culture. Heavy Burden is easier to trigger, since you only need a threat, 1 Twilight, and Gollum still alive in the Regroup Phase, but that card is still awfully situational. As a result, both cards are rarely played. Trap is Sprung is significantly stronger, but only available in later formats.

Remember that Gollum wins his skirmish if his opponent is killed or discarded, possibly with a card like They Stole It.
The Gollum cards in Ents of Fangorn are mirrored pairs, with a Free Peoples card and a Shadow card that have matching opposite effects. This card's Shadow counterpart is a fairly popular burden removal card, Not Listening. | The Gollum cards in Ents of Fangorn are mirrored pairs, with a Free Peoples card and a Shadow card that have matching opposite effects.
