Hobbits are a race of meek, homely people who typically dwell in and around the Shire, favoring homes that are at least partially underground. In this game, hobbits are a [[Free Peoples]] [[race]]. [[Frodo]], one of the protagonists of Lord of the Rings and the chief [[Ring-bearer]] in this game, is a hobbit. With one exception, all hobbits in this game are {{C|Shire}} culture Free Peoples [[character]]s.

The sole exception is {{Card|Ted Sandyman, Chief's Men's Ally}}, a {{C|Men}}-culture hobbit [[minion]] from [[Treachery & Deceit]]. This unusual quality allows the [[Shadow Alignment|Shadow]] player to play this minion, then play cards like {{Card|Fool of a Took!}} that spot "a Hobbit" against any opponent. Such cards were intended to counter {{C|Shire}} Hobbit decks, and designed on the presumption that such a character would be one of the Free Peoples' player's [[Companion|companions]] or [[Ally|allies]].
