In early 2004, Decipher teamed with Weta Workshop, the award-winning special effects studio responsible for creating props and special effects for New Line Cinema's The Lord of the Rings films, to create new photographic images to be featured on cards for Decipher's The Lord of the Rings TCG. Known as "book cards" and usually marked with the Weta "bug" image in the lower right corner, these unique cards are being distributed in a variety of promotions and special products, such as The Countdown Collection, Reflections, and The Weta Collection.

In addition, Decipher was able to arrange for photographs of numerous props in the Weta archives which appeared in the films so briefly or at such a distance that the available stills were not usable for card images. Cards created from these images will generally be part of regular expansion sets (some were included in Reflections) and will not be marked with the Weta logo.
