General Strategy

Faramir, Captain of Gondor has a plethora of uses. He is, first and foremost, designed to combat roaming minions, boasting a strength of 11 and Damage + 1 against a roaming minion with a Sword of Gondor. In Towers, Ancient Roads and Gondorian Ranger can be used to make the minions roam, but later sets add other options, such as Man the Walls, Gondorian Merchant or Madril, DoO.

As a Ring-Bound Ranger, Faramir, Captain of Gondor has access to all events and conditions that benefit rangers in addition to the Towers Block cards that benefit Ring-bound rangers. Being Ring-Bound allows the Free Peoples player to pile up cards on him without fear of Wormtongue.

Faramir, Captain of Gondor's cost reduction ability is also extremely useful; it makes various other [gondor] Men free, and potentially allows for a 9 companion starting fellowship in later sets - With any Frodo as ring-bearer and Faramir's ability to make [Gondor] Men twilight -1, Aragorn, Strider plays for (0), Halbarad, Ranger of the North plays for [1], the Free Peoples player can subsequently play four copies of the Ranger of the White Tree for (0) twilight, completing a nine companion starting fellowship. Faramir can also be combined with Boromir, Bearer of Council or Isildur, Bearer of Heirlooms, for one of the most common combinations to starting Denethor, Lord of Minas Tirith.

Even in decks with no intent to make minions roam, Faramir's early strength boost can still be useful. Faramir's Sword can also make minions roaming regardless of site number.

Faramir, Captain of Gondor also has the Aragorn signet, providing good synergy with Aragorn, King in Exile and other cards that target companions with the signet.
